Faculty of Agronomy

The Faculty of Agronomy, one of 8 Faculties of Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture & Forestry (TUAF), was founded in 1970 as the Crop Science Faculty. Since its establishment, the faculty has been recognized for many high achievements in education, research and technology transfer for the Northern region of Vietnam.

1. BRIEF HISTORY

The Faculty of Agronomy is currently one of the leading educational centers in term of agriculture at undergraduate and graduate levels in the North mountainous Regions of Vietnam. The faculty has so far received honors, namely: third and second- class labor medals in 1987 and 2001, respectively.

2. MISSIONS

- To educate high quality human resources in the field of agriculture at undergraduate and graduate levels in the fields of agriculture and rural development for the Northern mountainous regions of Vietnam.

- To conduct research and technology transfer in order to improve the lives and social welfare for the people in the Northern mountainous regions of Vietnam.

5. SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER

A number of researches have been successfully conducted in plant selection & breeding and the use of technology advances in agriculture to cultivation & intensive farming.

The faculty members are currently coordinating 12 research projects at national and inter-government levels in crop science; 15 research projects at ministry level and many technology transfer programs delivering into production at the Northern midland and mountainous regions.

As the only faculty of the university selected to implement the Profession – oriented higher education project, funded by the Dutch government during 2005 – 2009 (phase 1), the faculty has been executing the second phase of the project in the period 2013 – 2015. This would be a good opportunity for the faculty itself to improve its educational quality.

Vietnamese counterparts: Ministry of Agriculture & Rural development; Ministry of science & technology; Vietnam Academic of Agricultural Sciences; and other universities such as Vinh, Hue, Can tho and Nong Lam HCM universities.
