On April 7th,2012 Dr. Hoang Thi Bich Thao, a project representatives of TUAF and Japanese partners came to Oil and Chemical Corporation Biofuels and Petroleum (PVB) Joint Stock Company in Phu Tho to discuss about the process of producing ethanol from sweet sorghum and schedule plans to visit some factories producing ethanol from sweet sorghum in USA and Japan.
On April 9th-10th,2012 Japanese partners and Dr.Thao visited Luang Prabang College of Agriculture and Forestry to discuss plans to expan the development of sweet sorghum to Laos where the climate and soil have many similarities with Vietnam and Laos can be the good place to develop sweet sorghum models.
The sweet sorghum project is attracted the attention of Vietnamese government and many countries to deal with energy crisis. Bioethanol has been researched as a new fuel to replace traditional fuels (gas, petro, oil) used for engines of motobikes and automotobiles.
Among cultivated plants used to produce Ethanol fuel, sweet sorghum is considered as the most potential compared to other plants. Sweet sorghum has high sugar content in its body and it can grow well in poor nutrition soils. According to evaluations of Bank of East Asia and some initial researching of Vietnames scientists, sweet sorghum will be the most appropriate cultivated plants in Vietnam to produce bioenergy if the proper varieties are collected.
