The Aquatic Training, Research and Development Center in the Northeast formerly known as Practical and Experimental Center, which was established in 1970. Since its establishment, this center has gained significant achievements in training, research, technology transfer in Agriculture and Aquatic for the northern mountainous region of Viet Nam.
Every year, the University has conducted various research projects funded and managed at national, ministry, TNU & TUAF levels. In recent years, TUAF witnessed significant development in the areas of scientific research and technology transfer contributing to the socio-economic development of the local.
Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry (TUAF), which was established in 1970, is one of the members of Thai Nguyen University. For 45 years of establishment and development, TUAF has been recognized as the center for training, scientific research and technology transfer in agriculture, forestry, environmental and resource management, and rural development in the midland and northern mountainous provinces of Vietnam
Vermicompost project has been done by a group of Advanced Education Program (AEP) students in Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry with a group of Indonesian students.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture is now accepting applications for the 2013 Norman E. Borlaug International Agricultural Science and Technology Fellowship Program.
Within the framework of international cooperation between University of Agriculture and Forestry (TUAF) and Japanese partner, on August 3, 2011-afternoon the representatives of Tropical Research Company EarthNote, Daiwa Co., Ltd. in Japan and representatives of the University have jointly signed the project: "Cooperative research on sweet sorghum to be raw material for producing bioethanol in Vietnam".

In addition to the fund for research, the University receives from Ministry of Science and Technology and from Ministry of Education and Training through yearly project approval and funding, The University also grants and funds various research projects yearly. This fund targets to young staff.
