Faculty of Economics and Rural Development

     1. BRIEF HISTORY

The Faculty of Economics and Rural Development, one of 8 faculties of the Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry (TUAF), was founded in 2005 with the former name as Faculty of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development. Since its establishment, the faculty has extended dominantly and become one of the leading institutions in education, research and technology transfer in the field of extension, agribusiness and rural development for the Northern region of Vietnam.

2. MISSION

• To educate high quality human resource in the field of agricultural economics, rural development and extension for the Northern mountainous region of Vietnam
• To conduct research and technology transfer in order to improve the livelihoods and social welfare for the people in the Northern mountainous region of Vietnam.

3. ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

The faculty has recruited 39 lecturers and staffs, including 02 associate professors; 04 Doctors and 33 Masters.

     5. SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER

Many researches and projects have been conducted and commenced successfully with the main focus on sustainable agriculture, rural livelihood and extension services. Since 2014, the faculty has been selected to implement the professional oriented higher education project, which was funded by the Dutch government (phase 2). This is considered as a good opportunity for the faculty itself to enhance its educational quality.

     6. COLLABORATION IN EDUCATION AND RESEARCH

The FERD has established and strengthened partnership with various international institutions and research centers worldwide such as the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), the SNV Netherlands Development Organization, etc…in collaborative activities in the field of agro forestry, agricultural extension, rural development, and livelihood improvement for ethnic minority groups. The range of those interventions covers mainly in mountainous region, the Northern West and North Central area of Vietnam.
