The visit of Mr. Paul Jenkins – Regional Director of Scope Global

As part of the Australian Volunteers for International Development Program (AVID), one Australian volunteer has been working at TUAF since September 2014, in the position of Agricultural Research Assistant. The role is part of a project funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) in the field of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Medicine for Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture & Forestry (TUAF).

On January 22, 2015, Mr. Paul Jenkins - Regional Director of Scope Global (East Asia) visited TUAF for a volunteer monitoring and evaluation meeting. The meeting was held between Mr. Paul Jenkins - Regional Director of Scope Global (East Asia); Mr. Jonathan Sharkey – Australian Volunteer at TUAF; Mr. Nguyen Huu Tho – Vice Director of Department of Science-Technology & International Cooperation; and a group of researchers of the ACIAR funded project “Overcoming technical and market constraints to the emergence of profitable beef enterprises in the North-Western highlands of Vietnam”. The meeting focused on evaluation of the volunteers activities and discussed the many opportunities for TUAF to host Australian Volunteers in the future.

The AVID program is an Australian Government initiative. The program offers a range of opportunities for the Australian community to share skills and foster relationships with people and organisations in developing countries. The initiative is designed to place volunteers in roles designed to build capacity and contribute to development as part of Australia's foreign aid program.

Scope Global is one of three organisations which deliver the AVID program. Scope Global mobilises skilled and experienced Australians on volunteer assignments across Asia, the Pacific and Africa. Volunteers work with local people to share knowledge, develop sustainable skills and build the capacity of individuals, organisations and communities in line with partner governments and Australian Government development priorities.
