The conference was actively participated in by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Van Minh – Vice President, TNU, Assoc. Prof. Do Anh Tai – Dean of International Relation Department, TNU, Dr. Tran Van Dien – Rector of TUAF, Prof. Dr. Michael Koehl, Prem Raj Neupan - Humburg University, Dr. Arinafril – Sriwijaya University – Indonesia, and TUAF faculty members and students.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Van Minh delivered the opening address, and he said that Vietnam is located in the World’s Most Dynamic Region. It is a convergence of favorable conditions to develop green economy. However, there are many challenges that Vietnam will have to face. Thus, he stated that Vietnam should invest for renewable energy science and technology; reduce greenhouse gas emissions & environmental pollution, restore natural ecosystems; save natural resources; review land use planning, and lessen energy consumption.
On the other hand, Prof. Dr. Michael Koehl explained green economy as an economy that results in improved human well-being and social equity, while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities.
As a consequence of this conference, the participants had a chance to discuss issues and concerns related to the topic “Green economic development for sustainable poverty reduction in the northern mountainous region of Vietnam”.
